Thomas John Madigan, 77, of Dagsboro, Del., formerly of Potomac, Md., died on June 12, 2018. He was born on June 28, 1940, and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Madigan practiced dentistry by serving with the U.S. Army, stationed in Qui Nhon, Vietnam, from 1968 to 1970, and then with his own practice in Montgomery County, Md., for 40 years. He was a graduate of Mount Saint Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Md., and Georgetown University Dental School.
Prior to his diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011, Madigan enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his garden. His garden was his prized possession, and he spent hours with his wife pruning his boxwoods and azaleas. He spent weekends at his second home in Bethany Beach, Del., prior to retiring in Delaware. He has been described by many as one-of-a-kind.
Madigan was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen, and his youngest siblings, James and Helen. His brother Robert of Knoxville, Tenn., remains the eldest. Madigan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol; his three beloved children, Kelly and her husband, Peter, Shannon and her husband, Bill, and Sean and his wife, Sara; and six treasured grandchildren, Patrick, Megan, Ryan, Erin, Drew and Kyle.
