Mary Alice Voorhees, 72

Mary Alice Voorhees, 72, of Selbyville, Del., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. She was born on June 21, 1945, in Lakewood, N.J., daughter of the late James Myers and Antoinette (Narozonick) Myers.

Voorhees and her husband owned and operated a sub shop and for the last 17 years, and she had worked at McCabe’s Gourmet Market in South Bethany, Del.

Voorhees loved her family and being a mother and grandmother. She also loved the beach, swimming and kayaking. She made people happy with her cooking, and her special loves were her daughters, rock ’n’ roll and her husband, Buddy.

In addition to her parents, Voorhees was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert “Buddy” Voorhees III, in 2010. She is survived by two daughters, Michelle Mitchell and her husband, David, of Dagsboro, Del., and Jessica Miller and her husband, Bobby, of Hokes Bluff, Ala.; a brother, Jay Myers and his wife, Colleen, of St. Augustine, Fla.; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

A memorial service was to be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street, Frankford, Del., where friends and family may call after 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice Center; 100 Patriots Way; Milford, DE 19963.
