Kathleen Virgie Ward, 82, of Georgetown, Del., passed away gently in the care of the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del., on July 18, 2016. She was born Nov. 18, 1933, in Georgetown, the daughter of the late Edgar Shockley and Elsie Conaway Shockley and granddaughter of Tolbert and Virgie Conaway.
Ward was a member of Mt. Olivet Brethren Church in Georgetown. She married the late Norman Ward and raised a family with him until his passing in November of 2010. She loved yardwork, including cutting grass. She treasured spending time with her friends to enjoy laughter, especially with her great-grandson, Russell Norman Murray.
In addition to her parents, Ward was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Shockley, and a sister, Alma Chorman. She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Mitchell, and her husband, Wayne, of Georgetown; her sister, Margaret Mitchell, and her husband, Earl, of Georgetown; her wonderful “McDonald’s Friends”; and other extended family members and friends.
A visitation and funeral service were scheduled for July 25, 2016, at Mt. Olivet Brethren Church, Georgetown, Del., with the Rev. Jerry Fike officiating and Margaret Mitchell presenting the eulogy. Interment was to follow in Carey’s Cemetery in Millsboro, Del. Flowers are welcomed, or memorial contributions can be sent to Mt. Olivet Brethren Church.
