James W. Adams, 91, of Laurel, Del., passed away at home on Jan. 16, 2018, while in the care of his family and Delaware Hospice. He was born in Georgetown, Del., on July 3, 1926, to the late Ira Adams and Carrie Wilson Adams.
Adams was an active, self-taught man who was a farmer and a carpenter. He also worked in plumbing, electrical and bulkheading. Adams enjoyed working in his own workshop, gardening and attending various steam shows. He loved a good joke and helping others. Most of all, he was a big family man.
Adams’ wife, Virginia, preceded him in death in 2013. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and a brother. He is survived by his only daughter, Gail Stevenson, and her husband, Robert, of Laurel; a granddaughter, Tracy Ellsworth, and her husband, Allen, of Seaford, Del; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Adams and his wife, Raelyn, and Justin Ellsworth and his wife, Maranda; a great-great-grandson, Jaxzen Ellsworth; four sisters, Sally Wharton and her husband, James, Lois Truitt and her husband, Jake, and Eva and Gertrude; two brothers, Al and his wife, Sandy, and Nelson and his wife, Barbara; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and two beloved “granddogs,” Shiloh and Comet.
A funeral service and celebration of Adams’ life were scheduled for Jan. 20, 2018, at Watson Funeral Home, with burial at Carney’s Cemetery, both in Millsboro, Del. The Rev.
