Samantha Jo “Sam” (Littleton) Kressin, 32, of Willards, Md., passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Del. She was born in Seaford on Feb. 19, 1984, daughter of Thomas Jackson Littleton and Pamela Susan (McKirby) Littleton. She had worked as a store manager for several stores prior to her illness.

Kressin was a devoted mother to her son and very active in all of his school activities. She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and watching murder mystery shows and loved the Dallas Cowboys. She will be remembered for her caring attitude toward others rather than worrying about her own health issues.

Kressin is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Kressin; a son, Julian M. Kressin; her mother and father, Thomas and Pamela Littleton; four sisters, Tommi Elliott and her husband, Robb, Sheila Trader and her husband, Butch, Virginia Littleton, and Heidi Meekins and her husband, Kasey; a brother, Logan Littleton; her parents-in-law, John and Lorraine Kressin; two brothers-in-law, Joshua Kressin and his wife, Liz, and John Kressin and his wife, Nicole; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Bella.

Betty L. Johnson, 84, of Ocean City, Md., died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at home. She was born in Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late Patrick Duggan and Virginia (Harrison) Duggan.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Matthews By-the-Sea United Methodist Church in Fenwick Island, Del.

Johnson is survived by her husband of 66 years, Paul K. Johnson of Ocean City; her children, Paul K. Johnson Jr. and his wife, Janice, of St. Augustine, Fla., Duane R. Johnson and his wife, Patricia, of Felton, Del., Cheryl V. Johnson and her husband, Michael, of York, Pa., and Vicki L. Johnson of Ocean City; five grandchildren, Paul K. Johnson III, Benjamin Johnson, Bryan Johnson, Christopher Johnson and Ryan Johnson; and eight great-grandchildren, Cayleigh, Ashley, Zachary, Meghan, Christopher Johnson Jr., Austin, Emily and Hunter.

Kenneth E. Hoban, 50, of Frankford, Del., died Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. He was born in Salisbury, Md., the son of Jeanne (Purdon) Hoban and the late Francis Eugene Hoban.

Hoban was a correctional officer at the Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown, Del. and was an avid arm-wrestler.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Breyden Hoban, Brooke Hoban and Slone Hoban, all of Millsboro; three brothers, Jack Hoban of Selbyville, Del., Bill Hoban of Dagsboro, Del., and Bobby Hoban of Frankford, Del.; and two sisters, Mary Atkins of Selbyville and Susan Hoban of Pittsville, Md.

A funeral service was scheduled for Feb. 17, 2017, at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville, Del. Burial was to be in Roxana (Del.) Cemetery. Ronald Joseph Filloramo, 76, of Selbyville, Del., died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at home. He was born in Washington, D.C., son of the late Thomas Filloramo and Eleanor Mary (Scaldaferri) Filloramo.

Filloramo attended St. Gabriel Elementary School and Calvin Coolidge High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1962 and served aboard the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt. Filloramo had been a salesman for many years and was a member of the American Legion in Millsboro, Del., the Ocean City (Md.) Elks and the Moose Lodge in College Park, Md. He was also a board member and sergeant-at-arms of the Delmarva Hand Dance Club.

Filloramo was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfonso and Joseph Filloramo, and a sister, Angelica Biosca. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Janie Filloramo of Selbyville; his children, Lisa Bruno of Henrico, Va., Scott Stevenson of San Antonio, Texas, Stacy Brown of Waynesboro, Va., and Spencer Stevenson of Huntingtown, Md.; a brother, Nicholas Filloramo of Bethesda, Md.; a devoted sister-in-law, Donna Greenwood of Selbyville; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville, Del., where friends may call an hour before the service. Donald C. ‘Don’ Edwards, 82, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017. He retired from a career as a Baltimore City police officer in 1999, after 32 years of service.

Edwards is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara (Ryan) Edwards; a daughter, Kimberly Edwards-Derby and her spouse, Theresa; a sister-in-law, Patricia Ryan; and a brother-in-law, Andrew Ryan.

William Dane ‘Bill’ Barry Sr., 66

William Dane “Bill” Barry Sr., 66, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on Feb. 18, 2017. He was born Dec. 25, 1950, in Litchfield, Ill.

He had a degree in social work from Kean University and a master’s degree from Fordham University. Prior to his retirement in 2014, Barry dedicated his career to mental health advocacy as a licensed clinical social worker and behavioral healthcare administrator at Care Plus Bergen County and Oaks Behavioral Healthcare Services in New Jersey.

Barry was an avid traveler and spent many summers with his family traveling the national parks system. He was happiest with his family and friends around him and a glass of red wine in his hand. He will be remembered for his quick wit, easy laugh and generous heart.

Barry’s true calling was as beloved husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Connie (Iannicelli) Barry; his children, Bill Barry Jr. and his fiancée, Erin Howard, and Katie Barry; a large and loving family, including his brother, Jim Barry and his wife, Martha; his sisters-in-law, Domenica Best and her husband, Ed, and Maryann Britton and her husband, Lee; his brother-in-law, Tony Iannicelli and his wife, Connie; his nieces, Danielle and Jessica Britton; his nephews, Craig Barry, and Matt Barry and his wife, Amie; and his great-niece and -nephew, Paige and Cameron Barry.

No services were planned at this time, and cremation was to be private. The family asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Kimberly J. McKenna, 57, of Selbyville, Del., died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

She was born in Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late Eugene McKenna and Florence (McCall) McKenna.

She had been an office manager for LEN Paper Co. and had worked for Brasure’s Pest Control in Selbyville.

McKenna is survived by a son, Jason Kelly McKenna of Selbyville; a brother, Kelly McKenna; and two sisters, Debby Angelonga and Ki McClure.

JoAnne M. McGowan, 66

JoAnne M. McGowan, 66, of Reston, Va., and South Bethany, Del., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del. She was born in New York City, N.Y., on May 12, 1950, daughter of the late John Murphy and Eleanor (Tierney) Murphy.

McGowan and her family settled in Vienna, Va., when she was 9. McGowan retired from the Department of Transportation in 2005.

She loved spending time in South Bethany and was looking forward to living fulltime at the beach. She was instrumental in helping her husband with his photography with two important organizations in the beach community, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s Bear Trap Dunes Pink Classic for the past 10 years and also Operation SEAs the Day for the last four years.

McGowan will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister and friend who always put others first.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Maureen Murray. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Michael F. McGowan; a son, Michael Murphy McGowan of Leesburg, Va.; and six siblings, John “Jack” Murphy of Long Beach, Calif., Lynn Sullivan and her husband, George, of Millsboro, Del., Suzanne Murphy and her partner, Michael Nordberg, of San Francisco, Calif., Tom Murphy of New Zealand, Lorie Murphy and her partner, Doug Neal, of Fairfax, Va., and Kathleen Murphy of Fairfax.

A visitation was scheduled for March 1, 2017, at Melson Funeral Services in Ocean View, Del., with a Mass of Christian Burial planned March 2 at St. Ann Catholic Church, Bethany Beach, Del. David Kline, 58

David Kline, 58, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by family and friends he loved, on Feb. 20, 2017, in Ocean View, Del. He was born Sept. 4, 1958, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Rita and Edgar Kline.

Kline graduated from Youngstown State University in 1982, with a degree in criminal justice. After moving to Delaware, he began working for the Dewey Beach Police Department and later became a Delaware State Police trooper, retiring after 22 years of service.

His children remember him as a driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Kline was an enthusiastic man who loved the beach, gardening, watching the sunset, fishing, his dogs and spending time with his family.

Kline is survived by his mother, Rita Kline of Youngstown; children, Shanna and Nicole Kline; siblings, Diane, Robert and Daniel Kline; and former wife, Jayne Kline.

Hunter L. Spillan, 90

Hunter L. Spillan, 90, of Dagsboro, Del., formerly of Annandale, Va., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. He was born in Lexington, Va., on Oct. 9, 1926, son of the late Thomas Spillan and Frances (Wilhelm) Spillan. Spillan proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He worked on Capitol Hill with the Committee on Appropriations of the U.S. House of Representatives and as staff director of the Energy & Water Development Subcommittee. He retired from public service in 1994 when he moved to Delaware. He enjoyed watching sports and western movies.

Spillan is survived by his wife, Constance “Connie” Marsh Spillan; a son, Kevin, and his wife, Janice; a grandson, Pete; his brothers, Fred and Robert; and his sister, Wendy.

Diane Doris Weis, 72

Diane Doris Weis, 72, of Lewes, Del., passed away at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del., on Nov. 23, 2016. She was born July 30, 1944, in Orange, N.J., to the late Daniel and Doris De Finis.

Weis married John R. Weis on March 7, 1964, and raised a son. They were married for 52 years, until John’s death in 2016. She was the owner and operator of J.R.’s Barbeque in Tom’s River, N.J. She moved to Delaware in 2002. Weis was very personable and made friends easily wherever she went. Her hobbies included kiln work, making jewelry from glass and cooking.

In addition to her husband and parents, Weis was preceded in death by her son, Robert, and his wife, Dawn Suzanne Weis, and two brothers, Dale and Doug De Finis. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Weis of Lewes; two grandchildren, Mark D. Weis and Robbyne Leigh Weis; a sister-in-law, Doris Weis of Indiana; and her caretaker, Nancy Robinson.

A memorial celebration of life will be held on March 18, 2017, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Clubhouse in the Meadows at the Village of Old Landing, Coatue Boulevard, Rehoboth Beach, Del. Janet Speirs Sprague, 79, of Medford, N.J., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017.

Sprague was preceded in death by her parents, John C. Speirs and Carlyle F. Speirs. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard Sprague; a brother, John C. Speirs Jr.; her daughters, Alison Sprague and her husband, Leland Lott, Amy Sprague and her husband, Scott Hart, and Jennifer Williams and her husband, Jon; six grandchildren, Elliot, Benjamin, Sadie, Olivia, Jared and Stella; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Sprague and Deborah Cuthbert; her nieces and nephews Daniel, Nancy, Cari and Stacy; and countless beloved friends.

Gary Arthur McCormick, 72, of Ocean View, Del., passed away, Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del. He was born Oct. 12, 1944, in Rochester, N.Y., to the late Arthur F. McCormick and Alberta Berry McCormick.

McCormick served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was the owner and manager of Accurate Office Machine Company, selling, repairing computers and office equipment for 42 years in the Newport, Del., area. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the VFW near Bethany Beach, Del., and enjoyed bowling, buying, selling and repairing cars, motorcycles and boats.

In addition to his parents, McCormick was preceded in death by sister, Christine Bobeck, and a great-grandchild, Carly Weiss. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alice Marie Short McCormick of Ocean View; daughter, Michelle Brakefield and husband, William, of Dover, Del.; brothers, Bill Laties and his spouse, Loli, of Perth Amboy, N.J., and Timothy McCormick and his spouse, Lorrie, of Bear, Del.; a sister, Patricia Pelenski, and her husband, Walter, of Lanoka Harbor, N.J.; grandchildren Dalton Weiss and his wife, Maria, Tori Brakefield, Logan Weiss and Tanner Brakefield; a great-grandchild, Bradley Weiss; and a sister-in-law, Sara Short of Dover.

Marilyn D. Lockfeld, 74, of Fenwick Island, Del., formerly of Chadds Ford, Pa., passed away on Feb. 26, 2017, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa.

Lockfeld graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in Scotch Plains, N.J., in 1960 and the New Brunswick Business School in 1962. A homemaker, she was active in the Chadds Ford Area Women’s Club, Garden Club and Red Hats. Lockfeld also volunteered at the Rachel Kohl Library and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, Del.

Lockfeld was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Evelyn Geetlein. She is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 55 years, William S. Lockfeld Sr.; their children, William S. Lockfeld Jr. and his wife, Beth, Melissa L. Harrison and her husband, Robert E. “Sudzy” Harrison Jr., and Michael S. Lockfeld Sr. and his wife, Robyn; and grandchildren Tiffany, Meredith, William Lockfeld III, Emily, Lauren and Michael Lockfeld Jr.

Ruth Geneva Doxzon Lingenfelder, 87, of Millsboro, Del., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017. She was born in Baltimore, Md., on Nov. 14, 1929, daughter of the late Roy and Nettie Doxzon.

In addition to her parents, Lingenfelder was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon (Lingenfelder) Trimble. Roberta ‘Bobbi’ Prettyman Lednum, 79, of Fenwick Island, Del., passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. Lednum was born in Easton, Md., on April 15, 1937, daughter of the late Robert Davidson Prettyman and Elmyra (Porter) Prettyman.

Lednum and her husband, Wayne, were partners in Creative Concepts Home Furnishings & Design, originally opening in 1973 in the York Beach Mall in South Bethany, then moving to the Creekside Plaza in Millville, Del., before building in Clarksville, Del., in 2005. They also expanded their business to a second location in Lewes in the early 1980s.

Lednum was the true matriarch of the family and provided a loving and caring environment not only to her immediate family but to everyone. She did not care about a person’s social status, color, political affiliation, education, financial status or appearance; if someone needed a helping hand, she would be there, without question, to help. She truly was her own “organization,” spending countless hours on the phone just checking on others.

Her life revolved around her family, which was so evident in the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lednum seemed to never slow down and had a tough-as-nails exterior with a heart of gold.

Lednum is survived by her loving husband and best friend of more than 61 years, Edward Wayne Lednum; three sons, W.R. Craig Lednum of Selbyville, Del., Steve M. Lednum and his wife, Gail, of Selbyville, and Scott W. Lednum and his companion, Dawn Dorman, of Fenwick Island, Del.; a sister, Irene Stinson of Preston, Md.; five grandchildren, Dalton Hughes of Towson, Md., Scott Chandler of Selbyville, Justin Lednum of Selbyville, Cortney Thompson and her husband, Fred, of Frankford, Del., and Cory Lednum of Selbyville; and five great-grandchildren, Kahnen Hughes, Jillian Chandler, Chloe Chandler, Kayden Thompson and McKinley Thompson.

A celebration of Lednum’s life was scheduled for March 9, 2017, at Ocean View (Del.) Church of Christ, followed by fellowship and food in the church hall. Lednum will be laid to rest in a private graveside service at Spring Hill Cemetery in Easton, Md. Kathleen Lawler-Grimm, 69, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Del. She was born in Norristown, Pa., on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1947, daughter of the late Thomas and Pauline Lawler.

Lawler-Grimm graduated from Bishop Kendrick High School in Norristown. She and her husband had moved to Millsboro 16 years ago, from Chesterton, Ind. In her spare time, she loved gardening tomatoes and flowers. She really enjoyed life, and was the light of her family and friends.

Lawler-Grimm is survived by her loving husband and friend of 42 years, Lawrence M. Grimm of Millsboro; two brothers, Tom and Bill; and a sister, Susan.

Joseph C. Diehl, 85, of Selbyville, Del., died Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. He was born in New Jersey, son of the late Joseph and Annie Diehl.

Diehl had been a truck driver for Yellow Freight Company for many years and was a member of the Fenwick Island Lions Club and Seaside Railroad Club. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.

Diehl was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Diehl. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Diehl of Selbyville; three stepchildren, Daniel Hubscher and his wife, Maryrose, of Annapolis, Md., Karen Stokes of Upper Marlboro, Md., and David Hubscher of Weymouth, Ma.; a sister, Hilda Diehl; and seven grandchildren.

Helen Dane, 90, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017. She was born in Hungary in 1926 and arrived in the United States in 1957 with her late husband, Andrew, and their young son, Andy. She and her family settled in Dagsboro soon thereafter, when Andrew Dane was hired by Delmarva Power.

Dane was a talented seamstress and well-skilled in many arts and crafts. She also shared in her family’s love of tennis, both competitively and recreationally. She was an active member of the YMCA and a dedicated volunteer, even earning the “Volunteer of the Year” award.

She is survived by her son, Andy Dane and his wife, Jane; her daughter, Shirley Townsend and her husband, Chet; and three grandchildren, Andrew Ryan Dane, Veronica Townsend and Ches Townsend.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 1 p.m., with visitation at noon, at Melson Funeral Services in Frankford, Del.
