Tullis “Jim” Gerald, 79, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Salem, N.J., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on June 21, 2018.
Gerald had retired in 1999 from Public Service Electric & Gas Company after 25 years of service at the Salem Nuclear Generating Station, and prior to that, he worked at Dupont’s Chambers Works for 11 years. He served his country as a lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal during his service. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and the American Legion Post 28, where he supported many activities and served on the House Committee.
He was a former NASCAR pit crew member and was an avid fan of the sport most of his life. He also enjoyed camping, gardening, traveling, singing, dancing to country music and participating in 4-H events with his daughter.
Gerald was preceded in death by his dog, Maggie, and his parents, Tullis Grant Gerald and Charlotte Mae (Porter) Gerald. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Sandra Lee (Disbrow) Gerald; a daughter, Jacqueline Jane (Gerald) DeSanctis and her husband, Rick, of Mullica Hill, N.J.; two grandchildren, Savannah Lane Racer of Mullica Hill, N.J., and Austin James Racer of Pennsville, N.J.; three step-grandchildren, Adam, Lori and Erica DeSanctis, all of Warrington, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Russell Lane Disbrow and his wife, Eileen, of Tampa, Fla.; his nieces, Tracey Gralley and her husband, Glenn, of Pennsville, N.J., and Stephanie Atkinson and her husband, Rich, of Cape Coral, Florida; as well as B.J. Robinson, Randall Robinson and David Robinson and other extended family members.
The family thanked Delaware Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
A memorial service will be held on June 29, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were suggested, to a veterans charity of the giver’s choice or to Delaware Hospice, at www.delawarehospice.org/donations/memorials.
