June W. Pettyjohn, 89, of Georgetown, Del., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, in the care of her family and Delaware Hospice. She was born in Georgetown on Nov. 6, 1928, to the late George W. White and Nettie E. Isaacs White.
Pettyjohn owned and operated the Blue Gold Inn, which was originally the Georgetown Bakery; worked for Diamond State Telephone Company; and was also a seamstress. She was an avid bridge player and a longtime member of the Sussex Pines Country Club. She and her husband were married 47 years and raised two children. She was a loving, smart, hardworking, strong-willed and independent woman who will be missed by many.
In addition to her parents, Pettyjohn was preceded in death by her brother; Levin White, in 1978; her husband, Golda “Bugsy” Pettyjohn Jr., in 2000; and a son, Jeff Pettyjohn, in 2001.She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dean Pettyjohn and Diana Pettyjohn, four grandchildren, Benjamin Pettyjohn, Brooks Pettyjohn, Kathy Pettyjohn, and Karen Irvin and her husband, Nate, and her great-grandchildren Dane and Emmitt Irvin, all of Georgetown.
A funeral service was scheduled for Jan. 25, 2018, at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, Del., with burial at St. John’s United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Art Backus was to officiate.
