James P. Gorman, 88, of Georgetown, Del., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2016.
Gorman was born in Bangor, Maine, on Jan. 29, 1928.
Gorman was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a graduate of the University of Maine, where he earned an agronomy degree. He worked for the Sussex Soil & Water Conservation District and during that time he served on the RC&D Committee, was able to help accomplish many worthwhile projects and was instrumental in the upgrading of the Georgetown sewer and water systems. He later became the owner/operator of his own engineering firm before his retirement.
Gorman was an avid runner, including three Marine Corp Marathons, and an avid New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed the beach and loved cats, especially his feline friend Grace. He was a devoted family man and will be dearly missed.
Gorman was preceded in death by his beloved foster parents, Gene and Ida Barton; a son, Terrance Gorman; four siblings, Patricia, Patsy, Enid and Lawrence; and his beloved canine friend Cody. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years. Cathy Hudson Gorman of Georgetown; five children, Janice Henion, Michael Gorman, Patrick Gorman, Megan Gorman Scroggs and her husband, Nick, and Keely Gorman; a sister, Ruth Conley; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
