Tony Lee Phillips, 68, of Bridgeville, Del., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2017. He was born on July 21, 1949, in Kinston, N.C., to the late Dorothy Phillips.
Phillips was a graduate of Kinston (N.C.) High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967. During his honorable service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and a M14 Sharpshooter Medal.
As a civilian, Phillips was a career-long baker. He was employed with Pet Food Production Company, which later became Pillsbury Food Production. He remained with the company until his retirement.
In addition to his mother, Phillips was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Phillips. He leaves to cherish his loving memories his son, Tony Phillips Pate and his wife, Tanya Pate; a daughter, Bahirah Allen; a grandson, Aaron Pate; six sisters, Shirley Phillips Wallace, Patricia Phillips Otero, Doris Butts, Esther Henry, Wanda Peterson and Velvatina Mapp; four brothers, Elmer Lee Phillips, James Hutchins, Michael Hutchins and Norman Hutchins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The celebration-of-life service was to be private.
