Catherine Johnson, 78

Catherine Johnson, 78, of Dagsboro, Del., was called to her eternal rest on Aug. 4, 2017. She was born in Pocomoke, Md., on Feb. 16, 1939, daughter of the late Irvin and Beulah Ross Johnson.

Affectionately called “Mom” and “Mom-Mom,” she received her formal education in the public school system of Worcester County, Md. Johnson was a hard worker. Prior to her illness, she was employed at Showell’s Poultry in Bishopville, Md.; Shangri-la and Seahawk motels in Ocean City, Md., and Vlasic Pickles in Millsboro, Del.

Johnson loved traveling and visiting family and friends. She also loved to cook and opened the doors of her home to anyone that needed a place to lay their head. She was devoted to her church family and was a faithful member of Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Selbyville, Del. Some of her favorite songs were “May the Work I’ve Done Speak for Me” and “Pass Me Not, Oh Gentle Savior.”

Johnson was preceded in death by her seven brothers, Ellis Johnson, Garfield Webster, Will Johnson, Steve Johnson, David Johnson, Rufus Johnson and John Johnson; two sisters, Viola Johnson and Ocie Mae Copes; a daughter, Shirley Lee Johnson; a granddaughter, Tynaisha Johnson; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Taylor.

She leaves to cherish fond memories three daughters, Vera Richards and her husband, Michael, of Seaford, Del., Evalene Johnson of Dagsboro, and Lisa Northan and her husband, Bruce, of Laurel, Del.; two sons, Calvin Johnson (and Pam Davis) of Frankford, Del., and Morgan Johnson and his wife, Ebony, of Harrington, Del.; a special son, Lemuel Handy; two special daughters, Charlotte Johnson and Valerie Marshall; two sisters, Agnes Mumford of Frankford, Del., and Stella Johnson of Salisbury, Md.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members and friends.

A graveside service will commence on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Zoar Golden Acres Cemetery, Bishopville, Md. A memorial service was scheduled for Aug. 24, 2017, at Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Selbyville, Del.
