George K. Wilder Sr., 71

George K. Wilder Sr., 71, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del. He was born in Hazard, Ky., on May 4, 1946, son of the late Earl Wilder and Martha (Duncil) Wilder.

Wilder worked for 42 years at the same processing plant, first known as Glidden Paint, which became SCM Chemicals, and retired from Millennium Organic Chemicals as a plant operator. After his retirement in 2009, he moved to Long Neck, Del., to be close to the water.

While in Delaware, Wilder worked part-time in security for the Pot-Nets communities for four years. He loved his time in Delaware spending countless hours on his boat fishing with his family and friends. Wilder was an avid fisherman and was known for making his own rods and lures. He also enjoyed spending time at Massey’s Landing recalling the day’s fishing expedition.

Wilder is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Laura L. (Williams) Wilder; three sons, George Wilder Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Pasadena, Md., Gregory Wilder (and Stacy Hutzler) of Millersville, Md., and David Wilder and his wife, Lisa, of Middle River, Md.; a granddaughter, Rachel Wilder-Goldsmith and her husband, Timothy; a great-grandson, Ryder Wilder-Goldsmith; two step-grandchildren, Lindsay Barley and Joseph Hutzler; a step-great-grandson, Hudson Barley; a brother, Roy Wilder and his wife, Betty; three sisters, Frances Crist, Freida Adams and her husband, R.L., and Nancy Meck and her husband, Donald; two brothers-in-law, Michael Williams and his husband, Stephen Heninger, and Richard Williams; a sister-in-law, Carol Sapeta; and several loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Wilder’s life will be held Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Pot-Nets Lakeside Community Center, 33076 Rock Cove, Millsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions to Tunnell Cancer Center; 18947 John J. Williams Hwy.; Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
