Arthur J. “Art” Shapiro, 83, of Ocean View, Del., formerly Bowie, Md., and Brooklyn, New N.Y., passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md. He was born in Brooklyn in February of 1933 to the late Julius and Esther Shapiro.
Shapiro retired as an attorney with the federal government, working briefly for the Immigration & Naturalization Service, as well as having a lengthy career with the Department of Health & Human Services. He was an avid fisherman and photographer. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, participating in spirited conversations about fishing, politics and current events.
Shapiro is survived by his loving wife, Pearl Shapiro; a daughter, Amy Shapiro and her husband, Roger Mingo, of Washington, D.C.; a son, Matthew Shapiro and his wife, Rochelle Figueroa, of Coral Springs, Fla.; stepsons Wayne Stahlmann and his wife, Donna, of Goshen, N.Y., and Scott Stahlmann and his wife, Jackie, of Ramsey, N.J.; a brother, Seymour Shapiro of Matawan, N.J.; grandchildren, David Shapiro, Ben and his wife, Victoria Hellmann, Erik, Becky and her husband, Dutch MacDonald, Jessica and her husband, Scott Williamson, Bret Mingo, Jane Stahlmann, Christopher Stahlmann and William Stahlmann, and Josiah Quintal; and a beloved niece, Monica Hirsch, and her family.
A private burial with family and friends will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Del.
