James H. ‘Jim’ Cooper Jr., 90, of Fenwick Island Del., passed away on Dec. 10, 2015, at his Florida home, in the loving arms of his wife of 67 years, Naomi.
Born Jan. 20, 1925, Cooper was a World War II veteran who served his country for 22 months overseas in the Pacific Theater as a sergeant attached to the 804 Field Artillery Battalion. He was awarded seven medals, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Cooper was a lifelong member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 313, Military Order of the Purple Heart, the American Legion and Odd Fellows. He will be dearly missed by both family and friends.
Cooper was preceded in death by his father, James H. Cooper Sr.; mother, Marion; sister, Jane Mitchell; loving daughter, Joan Noonan, who was married to Jim; and daughter-in-law, Denise. Cooper is survived by his wife, Naomi; sister, Marion Beatty; sons Glenn and his wife, Shelley, and Jeff; daughter, Nancy Greenwell; his grandsons, Brent and Kyle Stevens, Jamie and his wife, Elizabeth, and Robert and Joshua Greenwell; granddaughters, Sarah Vanderpool and her husband, Jordan, and Amanda; and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Cooper’s life will be held Monday, June 20, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. Interment will follow. Condolences may be sent online at www.melsonfuneralservices.com.
