George B. Simpson, 84, of Rehoboth Beach, Del., died with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del. He was born on Tuesday, April 12, 1932, in Dover, Del., son of the late William Simpson and Mary (Wilson) Simpson.
As a young man, Simpson spent his summers working on his Uncle George’s farm in Houston, Del. He was a regular participant at the Delaware State Fair, showing his prized cattle, and was active in FFA and 4-H. In 1950, Simpson graduated from Caesar Rodney High School, where he was class president. He continued his education at the University of Delaware, from which he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in agriculture and education. During his time at UD, Simpson managed the bull barn on the college farm.
Following graduation, Simpson started working in Dewey Beach, where he would meet the love of his life, Paula, whom he would marry on May 15, 1959. During this time, Simpson owned the Wilson Boat Company, and founded and built Simpson’s Marina on Rodney Street in Dewey Beach, where he enjoyed teaching countless people to waterski. Staying busy at work, he was a partner in Breakwater Dredging Co. until 1966. He was also the owner and operator of Eastern Corporation in Federalsburg, Md., until his retirement in 2001.
Simpson was active in numerous organizations. He was president of Associated Builders & Contractors of Maryland. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach for more than 50 years, serving on the Board of Trustees and as financial secretary. He was a member of the United Methodist Men, and served on the Long-Range Planning Committee prior to the building of the present church on Holland Glade Road. He also planned, oversaw and funded the construction of the ocean-side portico at Epworth
