Arthur Morgan “Art” Achilles, 70, of Bethany Beach, Del., passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016.
Achilles was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. His favorite hobby was golfing. He was widely known and beloved by everyone, with his ready smile and unforgettable personality. He was a former Bethany Beach lifeguard in his younger years and was a New York Yankees fan. He had an interesting reputation for his “feelings” about traffic lights, DelDOT and congested beach traffic.
Achilles was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy M. Achilles and Hilda Workman Achilles, and his longtime companion, Patti Shaffer, who passed in March of 2012. He is survived by two brothers, Brad Achilles of Douglasville, Georgia, and Clark Achilles and his wife, Carol, of Westminster, Md.; a sister, Dawn Achilles-Smith and her husband, Charlie, of Bethany Beach; and a niece, Hanna Achilles of Bethesda, Md.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggested donations in Achilles’ memory to Leukemia Society of Delaware, 203 Bohemia Mill Pond Drive, Middletown, DE 19709 or Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Rd, Milford, DE 19963.
