On Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, Bruce Schoonover, 73, of Bethany Beach, Del., died at his daughter’s home, surrounded by his family. He was born in 1944, to the late Robert and Mae Schoonover, in New York City.
Schoonover was highly respected in the telecommunications industry his entire career and enjoyed almost 20 years of retirement. In retirement, he and his wife, Sharon, loved to travel.
He was also very involved in the Fenwick Island Lions Club, serving as president for two different terms; was past president of the Middlesex Beach Association; and wrote newsletters and kept up with the websites for the Lions Club and St. John Historical Society.
He even helped create videos and books about the history of St. John, which he was extremely passionate about. Schoonover’s most recent endeavor was helping the Delaware State Police renovate Camp Barnes, a free summer camp for Delaware youth.
Schoonover is survived by Sharon, his wife of 52 years; his children, Kelley, and Bruce and his wife, Kim; his grandchildren, Brian, Matt, Kristen and Emily; and his siblings, Robert Schoonover and Loel Kline.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Martha’s Episcopal Church, 117 Maplewood Street, Bethany Beach, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial donations to the Fenwick Island Lions Club; 346 South Ocean Dr.; Ocean City, Maryland 21842, or to Delaware State Police, c/o Camp Barnes; P.O.
