John T. ‘Johnny’ Rogers Jr., 87

John T. “Johnny” Rogers Jr., 87, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017. He was born May 16, 1929, in Millsboro, Del., son of the late John T. and Mable Downs Rogers Sr.

Rogers was the owner of Johnny Rogers Bulkhead for 60 years and did work for the Pot-Nets Communities for more than 53 years. He was a charter member of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and a member of several hunting clubs. Rogers enjoyed being with friends and was an avid hunter who loved bird, deer and groundhog hunting. He also looked forward to his hunting trips to Wyoming with Duaine and Shelia Hagen for the last 30 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Rogers. He is survived by his loving and caring companion of 34 years, Judith Messick; two sons, Allen Rogers and his wife, Debbie, and Harvey Rogers and his wife, Terri; four daughters, Joyce Bowden and her husband, Mike, Mildred Churnich and her husband, Dave, Carol Miller and her husband, Allen, and Bonnie Rogers; a stepson, Troy Messick and his wife, Jamie; a step-grandson and hunting buddy, Chad Messick; a brother, Wayne Rogers; a sister, Linda Miller and her husband, Wayne; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by friends and family.

A visitation was scheduled for Feb. 7, 2017, with funeral service on Feb. 8, 2017, at Melson Funeral Services, Millsboro, Del. Interment was to follow in the Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro, Del.
