Martin John “Marty” Vari Jr., 59, of Harbeson, Del., passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2017, surrounded by many of his loving family and friends. He was born in Wilmington, Del., to Martin “Tino” Vari and Nancy (Grello) Vari on Dec. 8, 1957.
Vari went to school at Delcastle Technical High School and completed a state apprenticeship in plumbing. He married Doreen (Smith) Vari on March 16, 1985, and they had been married for almost 32 years. Vari went on to have two daughters and retired from Ferguson Enterprises of Millsboro, Del.
He was a loving husband, son and father who was wholeheartedly devoted to his family. In his early years, he was full of life and energy, constantly up to something and always sharing his sense of humor and outgoing personality with all of those around him.
Vari loved anything having to do with boating (including fishing and crabbing). He was a member of the Indian River Bass Club and enjoyed fishing with his family and close friends, Rick Garloff and Michael Rogers. In addition, he enjoyed camping, going to the races and racing RC cars. In his later years, Vari enjoyed flying drones, spending time with family and ordering off of QVC and HSN.
Vari was preceded in death by his father, Martin “Tino” Vari; his mother-in-law, Floria Smith; father-in-law, Medford Smith Sr.; and many other relatives. He is survived by his wife, Doreen Vari; two children, Allison Vari and her fiancé, Michael Marvel, and Andrea Stevenson and her husband, Stevie Stevenson; his brother-in-law; Medford “Lee” Smith and his partner, Karen Grandell; two nephews, Andrew and Nick Smith; his mother, Nancy (Grello) Vari; and many wonderful, loving aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Georgetown (Del.) Fire Hall from 3 to 6 p.m. Family and friends were invited to share memories and a meal to remember Vari and the life he lived. Condolences may be sent online at www.melsonfuneralservices.com.
