Jane H. Thompson, 85, of Ocean View, Del., and formerly of Wilmington, Del., passed away suddenly on Dec. 29, 2016, at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 15, 1931, daughter of the late Layton Gray and Jennie (Hemphill) Gray.
Thompson was a member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, Del. She was an active member of the community and gave of her time in many different charitable and service organizations.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Robert, to a variety of places, but her favorite destination was Hawaii. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her absolute greatest joy was simply spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Thompson was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene T. Handlin Sr.; her brothers Buzzy and Bill Gray; and her sister, Frances Duncan. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Robert L. Thompson; her children, Joanne Thielemann and her husband, Bill, Eugene T. Handlin Jr. and his wife, Laurie, Pattie Taylor and her husband, Fred, and Robert Handlin and his wife, Linda; her five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her husband’s children, Cheryl Rohm and Lauren Jones.
A Mass of Christian Burial was planned at St. John the Beloved R.C. Church, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington, Del., on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017. Interment was to be in All Saints Cemetery.
