John Francis ‘Jack’ Boland, 87

John Francis “Jack” Boland, 87, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at the Delaware Hospice Center. He was born in Somerville, Mass., on Aug. 21, 1929, to the late John Henry Boland and Elizabeth M. Buttimer Boland.

Boland retired from the U.S. Army after serving 23 years. He served the country during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 28 and AmVets Post 2.

Boland was quick-witted, with a dry sense of humor appreciated by those who knew him well. He was a generous, compassionate and caring man who volunteered with Delaware Hospice for 10 years and also with Beebe Medical Center. He enjoyed keeping in touch by phone with his children, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Boland was also preceded in death by his wife, June Boland, in 2000 and a brother, William L. Boland. He is survived by three children, Shelia Boland Fuller and her husband, Michael, of Cleveland, Tenn., Thomas Boland of Fayetteville, N.C., and Michelle Scott and her husband, Michael, of Raeford, N.C.; a sister, Denise McKenzie of Somerville, Mass.; six grandchildren, Abbey, Elliot, Thomas Boland Jr., Jonathan, Steven and Cameron; two great-grandchildren; and his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service was scheduled for Dec. 16, 2016, at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, Del. Burial with military honors following at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
