Jonathan “Jon” E. Emrick, 89, of Ocean View, Del., formerly of Camp Springs, Md., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at his home.
He was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on Dec. 28, 1926, son of the late Ernest Clay and Norma (Hemmert) Emrick. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and graduated from Ohio Northern University.
Emrick retired as a civil servant for the federal government with over 30 years of service. He was an active member of the Mason Dixon VFW Post 7234 in Ocean View, Del.; a member of the Men’s Club at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, Del.; past president of the Sussex County Chapter of NARFE; past member of the Knights of Columbus in Forestville, Md.; and past president of the Association of Naval Weapons Engineering & Scientists. He loved golfing, woodworking and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard D. Emrick and James W. Emrick, and a son-in-law, John A. Renfroe III. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Jane (Kah) Emrick; five children, Rebecca S. Renfroe of Mansfield, Texas, Stephen D. Emrick and his wife, Donna Marie, of Virginia Beach, Va., Elizabeth E. Martin and her husband, Thomas, of Ocean View, Mary Kathryn Buckey and her husband, Charles H. III, of Waldorf, Md., and Michael J. Emrick and his wife. Joan. of Ocean View; 11 grandchildren, John, James, Christina, Ashley, Jeffrey, Lindsay, Jonathan, Rebecca, Charles, Nicole and Amanda; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, Del., with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, Del. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro, Del.
