Carol Schneider, 70

Carol Schneider, 70, a long time teacher in Montgomery County, Maryland Catholic schools and business woman in Bethany Beach, Delaware, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4 from cancer. Born Carol Ann Fletcher in upstate New York, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Valeria “Bo” Fletcher and sister of the late Barbara Fletcher.

Schneider was predeceased by her husband, Matthew Schneider, a feature writer for Voice of America in Washington. They were married in 1968. She is survived by her son Marcy Schneider, and daughter Janna Schneider Enger, son-in-law Kristofer Enger and granddaughter Nora Enger, all of Ocean View, DE.

Schneider graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in Education with an emphasis on language arts, speech and journalism. She later attended certificate programs at Johns Hopkins University, Montgomery College and Trinity College in Washington. She taught math, literature and religion at St. Andrew the Apostle School in Silver Spring, MD (2002-2004), and also taught at St. Catherine Laboure School, Wheaton, MD (1990-2002). She was fifth grade homeroom teacher at St.Catherine's, supervised the safety patrol program and chaired a number of multicultural events and awards program, as well as taught language arts, reading, social studies and math while running school-wide multicultural events and awards programs.

Following a move from Bethesda, MD to Delaware in 2004, Schneider worked as a Realtor for Tansey-Warner Real Estate in Bethany Beach (2004-2007). She later operated the home furnishings store known as The Beach Cottage in Ocean View and Bethany Beach (2007-2013).

Early in her career beginning when her husband was assigned to the Los Angeles Bureau of Voice of America, Schneider worked in the rental car field, first as a senior manager for Hertz at Los Angeles International Airport and subsequently at Reagan National Airport (1978-1984). She also worked for Thrifty and Budget in Montgomery County, MD in the mid-1980's.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12 at Fenwick Island State Park.
