George William Plath, 84, of Millville, Del., formerly of Claymont, Del., passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Renaissance Nursing Home in Millsboro, Del. He was the son of the late Luther Plath and Marion (Weidner) Plath.
Plath graduated from Ridley High School in 1949, and attended PMC and the University of Delaware for business management. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Plath retired from the Wilmington News Journal in 1992, after 26 years of service.
Plath enjoyed fishing in Maine, Canada and Delaware with friends and family. He also enjoyed bowling and volunteering in many ways. He always said, “TV was invented just for sports.”
In addition to his parents, Plath was preceded in death by his sisters, Larene, Ethel and Bernice, and his brothers, Frank, Luther, David and Raymond. Plath is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley (Smith) Plath; a daughter, Sharon Palmer; two sons, David and Michael; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Burial was to be private, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Del. A memorial service was scheduled for July 20, 2016, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where memorial contributions may be sent, at 501 Duncan Rd, Wilmington, DE 19809.
